Global Karuta 2018 – Winning works of Creative Karuta Award 2018

We have just completed printing a new set of karuta cards ‘Global Kruta 2018’
which is a prize to the winners of Creative Karuta Award 2018.

This is a bilingual, English and Japanese, version of karuta cards featuring charms
of 21 countries, using the 30 works selected from 847 works created by over 800
people from 27 countries, who participated in the international contest or creative
workshops in 2018.  Most of Japanese clues were newly created by Karuta project
team.

Thanks for many entries to Creative Karuta Award 2018. We received 629 entries from
27 countries. Here we would like to announce the result of the contest. 

About Creative Karuta Award 2018

This is an international Art & Writing Contest to create ‘karuta’, a traditional Japanese card game,
themed as “Share a charm of various towns, countries around the world”. Everybody was invited to
submit a pair of drawing/painting & phrases expressing their favorite scenes/objects in their
home/chosen country. The Award had 5 age categories such as 7 years old or younger, 8-11
years old, 12-15 years old, 16-19 years old and 20 years old or older.

The results

The total 20 works were selected as an award winning work. Originally 15 works were planned to
select but 5 works were added because so many high quality works were entered.

Prize

The winners will receive a set of karuta cards ‘Global Karuta 2018’ showing the all winning works at the Award Ceremony.

Note: The ceremony will be held as part of Karuta Festival 2019

Exhibition & Publication

All winning original works will be exhibited on the ‘Karuta Festival 2019 and be published on ‘Karuta 2020’ website after the Festival.

Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for your entry to Creative Karuta Award 2018. 

We received 629 entry works from 27 countries. 

We plan to send an email to the winners by 15th January and 
announce the results on our website in February 2019. 

Due to the volume of entries we can send our email to the only 
winners, I am afraid.

About Creative Karuta Award 2017

  • This is an Art & Writing Contest to create ‘karuta’, a traditional Japanese card game, themed around “Share the charm of Japan and the world”.
  • Everybody is invited to submit a pair of drawing/painting & phrases expressing their favorite scenes/objects in their home/chosen country.
  • The Award has 4 sections such as Primary children, Secondary students, University students and Working adults.
  • In 2017 We received 449 entries from 19 countries and their topics covers 43 countries.

 

The results

  • The total 12 works (3 works per section) were selected to win ‘Excellence Award’
  • ‘Special Award’ was newly set up to award additional 14 works because so many high quality works were entered this time.

  • The winners will be awarded with a set of bilingual karuta cards, ‘Global Karuta 2017’ using the 26 winning works.

Workshop Karuta Award 2016 for schools, UK

In September 2017 we visited 3 schools in Kent, United Kingdom to hand over the certificate of  Workshop Karuta Award 2016 and the prize, a pack of Karuta set.
